Seeing Beyond the Present to Create the Future

Five years ago, we all found ourselves stuck at home, facing an invisible threat that turned life upside down. Suddenly, everything we relied on—our routines, our work, our creative flow—was thrown into chaos. Sure, there were plenty of people working on solutions, but let’s be real… a lot of them didn’t make sense at first. And by the time the practical ones started showing up, we resisted them. Why? Because it didn’t matter what the solution was—all we knew was that we felt trapped, and when you feel trapped, you fight to break free.

But little by little, the world adjusted. Zoom, Google Meet, FaceTime, virtual meetups—all these tools became lifelines. Suddenly, it wasn’t just tech nerds using video calls; it was all of us. We found ways to connect, collaborate, and create, even when the old ways weren’t an option.

As a theater director, I was right there in the thick of it. Our show got canceled the week after the lockdown started, and like so many others in the performing arts, I was left scrambling. First, it was the heartbreak of losing the work we loved. Then, reality hit: How do we make a living now? For those of us without a financial safety net or a backup plan, it was terrifying.

And here’s the thing—some creatives are still struggling. I hear it all the time: Maybe I should just quit. Maybe I should get a “real job.” I get it. But here’s what I also know: Without a clear vision, it’s way too easy to give up.

Why Vision Matters More Than Ever

Vision isn’t just about dreaming big—it’s about having something strong enough to pull you through the tough times. It’s what keeps you going when the money isn’t coming in, when rejection piles up, when self-doubt creeps in. It’s what makes you sit down and refine your craft, put yourself out there, and

stay the course even when things feel impossible.

The creatives who make it? They’re not necessarily the most talented. They’re the ones who get really clear on their vision, mission, and purpose—and then build a roadmap to make it happen. They revisit it daily, weekly, monthly—adjusting as needed but never losing sight of where they’re headed.

So, What’s Next for You?

If you’re feeling stuck—or just ready to take your creative career to the next level—join me this Sunday, March 9th, for a workshop on Creating a Sustainable Career in Your Creative Genius.
